CLASSES

ACTING I

This year long course is an introduction to acting. It is the prerequisite for all other acting classes. The course is directed toward a clear understanding of basic acting skills. It introduces the acting process and the role of the actor in various styles/methods. This course also introduces students to the areas of playwriting, directing and theatre history. In this class, theatre is used as a means to encourage self-confidence, cooperative learning, teamwork, organization, and leadership skills. The class allows all students the opportunity to perform on a regular basis in large and small groups.

ACTING II-IV

This year long course enhances the skills developed in the Acting I class. The class will focus on advanced level acting skills including historical and classical scene study. Students will explore a variety of acting genres and acting methods. This class allows all students the opportunity to perform on a regular basis as an individual and in groups. Prerequisite: Acting

ADVANCED DRAMA I

This year long course is an advanced study in acting and production. The course will include advanced acting techniques and in-class production opportunities. Students will assume positions of responsibility on selected productions throughout the year and will have an opportunity to participate in several types of artistic situations. Prerequisite: Audition

ADVANCED DRAMA II-IV

This year long course enhances the skills developed in Advanced Drama I with a focus on student direction, playwriting, and design. Prerequisite: Audition

TECHNICAL THEATRE I

This year long course functions as an introduction to the technical elements of theatre, such as Set Design, Set Construction, Costumes, Makeup, Props, Lighting, Sound and Publicity. Students will have the opportunity to construct the sets for all JCHS Theatre department productions.

TECHNICAL THEATRE II-IV

his year long course delves further into the explorations of the technical elements of theatre. Students will learn to improve their use of tools and technical skills associated with the elements of theatrical design and theatre management. Students will have the opportunity to construct the sets for all JCHS Theatre department productions. Prerequisite: Technical Theatre I 

DRAMATIC WRITING (FILM, TELEVISION, AND THEATRE)

This year long class applies skills to culminate in creating and developing dramatic writing for theatrical media with special emphasis on stage, film and television. Includes development of “writerly stance” by reading, viewing, and analyzing tests and visual media from a writer’s point of view, with focus on understanding the construction process and including the application of conventions of standard English grammar and usage. Note: This course meets fourth English Language Arts core requirement.

CLUBS

DRAMA CLUB

Drama club is open to all JCHS students. The once a month meetings include Theatre department business, creative drama games and workshops. The club also participates in field trips, outings, and community service.

IMPROV CLUB

Improv Club is open to all JCHS students. The once a month meetings include a variety of improvisation games.

THESPIAN SOCIETY

This is an Honor Society for Drama students. Students must earn points to be eligible for induction. Points are earned by participating in acting and technical roles for our theatre productions. Inductions are in the spring of each year. Thespians attend the Georgia State Thespian Conference in Columbus, Georgia each February.
